Town to host ‘Superhero Saturday’ in aid of Strata’s chosen charity SNAPS

25 March 2024

We are excited to be hosting ‘Superhero Saturday’ at The EnviroVent Stadium when we face Sutton United on Saturday 13th April.

Raising money for Strata’s chosen sponsor  SNAPS, we are inviting supporters to attend the match in fancy dress as their favourite superheroes. Every child taking part will be given a prize as a thank you for participating!

Fan Engagement Manager Hamilton Mattock added: “Our Junior Membership has really taken off over the last few months and we’re seeing more and more young supporters come through the doors at The EnviroVent Stadium for the first time.

“Superhero Saturday is an opportunity to add another layer of fun to our young supporters’ matchday experience, as well as helping support a fantastic cause.

“I’m excited to see our fanbase really embrace this opportunity to support the great work Strata do, a local charity in SNAPS and can’t wait to see the end result on 13th April!”

The club will be welcoming 34 children and their parents from SNAPS on the day and look forward to giving them a day they will never forget.

As well as plenty of our junior supporters dressed as their favourite superheroes, we’ll have Captain Marvel and Spiderman in attendance on the day.

Head of Social Purpose at Strata and former Harrogate Town defender Matt Bloomer added: “We are so passionate about being able to make a difference in our communities and it’s a real honour to get the chance to do this with the club, who we know share those same values.

"It’s been amazing to watch HTFC and the fanbase develop over the years and I know the SNAPS team are excited about attending and for some this is their first ever experience of a live game. Please get behind what is a fantastic charity and let’s make it a special day."

About Snaps

SNAPS (Special Needs and Parent Support) is a local charity providing support services for children with additional needs and their families. Their aim is to support the entire family by enabling the child, along with siblings, parents and other carers to participate in  shared experiences of physical activity, fun and conversation in relaxed surroundings.  All our sessions are supported by professional and dedicated staff and children do not need a formal diagnosis to access SNAPS’ services. Families can self-refer to the charity or be referred by another organisation and we support children from any location.

They provide weekly physiotherapist led hydrotherapy and rebound sessions, along with swimming, arts and crafts, dance, sing and sign, boccia, storytelling and music therapy. These sessions are a great opportunity for families to come together and meet other people in a similar situation and take part in activities others may take for granted.  We also run weekly accessible football sessions for children with additional needs and their siblings whilst our Family Support Project aims to deliver more in-depth support for parents and carers between our weekend sessions.

"SNAPS has been there for us when we had no other help for our son.  They are all amazing and help the children in lots of ways.” A SNAPS Parent.

"Coming to SNAPS has had a positive impact for our whole family and we are forever grateful for this charity and the volunteers." A SNAPS Parent.

“Working for SNAPS really is a privilege. Every week we get to support children to achieve goals they may have been told were not possible through our vital therapies, as well as providing fun activities like football and family support. Our therapies are in high demand and we rely heavily on fundraising to continue providing our crucial services. The opportunity for our families to attend a live Harrogate Town match is incredible! Not only does the chance to be here today offer a fantastic opportunity for our families to attend a live sporting event, knowing they will be safe and welcomed, it’s also a fantastic platform for us to raise our exposure and hopefully raise additional much needed funds. We are so grateful to the team at Harrogate Town and Strata for the opportunity. They are helping us continue to make the impossible, possible for children with additional needs and their families.” Lisa Morton – Head of Fundraising at SNAPS
