Belshaw joins on emergency loan!

15 December 2023

Harrogate Town AFC are delighted to announce the return of goalkeeper James Belshaw on an emergency seven-day loan.

With injuries to both Mark Oxley and Jonathan Mitchell, Belshaw will provide much needed competition in the goalkeeper department.

Of course, the stopper is no stranger to Town having spent four years with the club between 2017 and 2021.

Belshaw made 184 appearances during that time, winning the National League North Promotion Final, National League Final and FA Trophy.

Speaking on his return, Belshaw said: "I had a fantastic four years at this football club in my first spell, it's a period which I am very proud of. Since then, the club has continued to go from strength to strength which is great to see.

"The opportunity to return came up and for me it was a no brainer. It was great to be back in training today and I am sure I will enjoy my time here for as long as it lasts."

Simon Weaver added: "We have had to act quickly and thankfully we've been able to bring James Belshaw back into the building. We are thankful that he wanted to return and the timing couldn't be any better.

"Since he was last here, he has gone to Bristol Rovers and delivered under pressure. He achieved a third promotion and played at League One level. He comes back here an even better goalkeeper than he was before.

"I'm sure the fans will be pleased to see Belly back, he played so many good games for us in his last spell and we are confident that he can deliver again for us."

Having trained with the squad today, Belshaw will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's clash with Notts County.

The club would like to place on record our thanks to both Bristol Rovers and James himself for their cooperation which allowed this deal to be completed swiftly.
